About the work

Het Vondelpark, Amsterdam’s green heart, nestled between the vibrant neighborhoods of Oud-West and Oud-Zuid. Opened in 1865, the park was named after the Dutch poet Joost van den Vondel and has since become a cherished retreat. The paths made of sycamore 'float' over the park and water giving the piece its distinctive depth.

  • This artwork is based on satellite Geo-information, OpenStreetMap data and opensource governmental housing data, this base of realism is then hand tailored for aesthetics through careful selection of scale, road width and the overall cut. Our in-house integrated cutting technology ensures each of the five layers is precisely cut, followed by thorough hand cleaning and inspection on an illuminated glass plate for flawless quality. Layers are manually assembled with precision, compressed to bond, then varnished and framed in a Nielsen frame from Germany. symbolizing a perfect blend of technology and craftsmanship in each unique piece.

  • This work is made in our Nordic style
A combination of off white Sycamore with warmer tones of brown oak, contrasted with white Birch wood for all building footprints. This style has a spring like feel to it presenting a very rich colour palette and wonderful details. The depth of 5 layers gives an extraordinary perspective to the work due to the larger field of depth and the shadows which result. The work is meant to intrigue and provide a wealth of detail such that one's attention keeps getting drawn to it.

    1. Do not place your artwork in direct sunlight to prevent discoloration by the suns UV rays. A nice location with indirect light or a daylight spot light is the best choice.

    2. Keep your work between 35 and 65% relative humidity. Particularly higher values over longer periods of time can harm the wood structure beyond repair. Follow the following practical guidelines:

    a. In practice do not place it directly above or underneath heat sources (radiators, chimneys or air-co) which can lead to very dry air.
    b. Keep your art away from humid areas like the bathroom or cellars.
    c. In case you live in a very humid place consider getting a de-humidifier. Besides being great for preserving your art, your own health will benefit considerably.

Advice for display

This work can be best admired from medium to close range on a wall space. For a feeling of the relative size; the grey frame in the image is the size of this work compared to our other sizes and a person. It looks best in a medium sized room or if combined with other works in a larger space. Consider to combine it with natural lighting, this ideally comes down to a spotlight with a colour temperature of 5000 - 5500 Kelvin, illuminating the work from above. It will present the natural wood colours and structure of the work at its best.

Reviews

Materials

The following materials are used in your artwork.

Image of the Sycamore (wood) we use in our art, maplab

Sycamore

Sycamore has an off-white to creamy hue and a very fine grain. The dense structure and high hardness make it ideal for cutting very intricate networks of roads. Its light-reflecting quality enhances the delicacy and brightness of our work. We source our Sycamore from European forests where it is sustainably harvested.

Image of our Oak which we use in our artwork, maplab

European Oak

European Oak, a premium hardwood from the forests of Eurasia, is known for its durability and elegant aesthetics. It features a warm brown to golden color that matures beautifully. Each piece showcases unique characteristics like mineral streaks, color variations and growth rings adding individuality to our Artworks. It is a timeless wood which blends the essence of European woodlands into any design.

Birch

Birch has a white, satin like surface and due to its fine grain it holds detail extremely well. As one of the whitest natural woods we use it often as a contrast layer with respect to other wood species. Our Birch comes from Finland and meets all requirements for sustainable foresting.

Lush Green Embossed Paper

A vibrant tone of green made of fine paper which is manufactured from recycled coffee cups. To add to the dynamic took we chose an embossing structure to represents fresh foliage.

Dark Blue-green Embossed Paper

This darker shade of blue-green is precisely the colour we were looking for in representing the bodies of water in our works. The embossed wave pattern makes the waters more dynamic and realistic. We find that an addition of dark green to the blue makes it combine fantastic with the browns of the wood and the greenery.
